Synopsis

Are we alone in the universe? It is humanity’s oldest question. It has spanned the ages, haunted myths and fuelled science fiction for over a century.

Today, it has become one of the most ambitious investigations ever undertaken by science. The discoveries of recent years are changing everything. No one knows the limits of the Universe. It is constantly expanding. Thousands of stars are born there every second, and around them, planets. Billions of suns, billions of worlds. In this vastness, life may be hiding somewhere.

In thirty years, astronomers have discovered more than six thousand planets orbiting other stars. Oceans of liquid water have been uncovered beneath the ice of certain moons of Saturn and Jupiter. The James Webb telescope is scanning unknown atmospheres, light-years from Earth. The world’s leading laboratories are mobilised.

Secrets of Science offers 90 minutes of investigation alongside Allan Petre, a young French engineer working at NASA. This documentary reveals the latest findings from scientific research, meeting the leading French and international researchers at the very heart of the scientific world.
